Amplifying Her Voice Featured Speaker: De’Nicea Hilton Harper

We’re still sharing wisdom from the women who spoke at our Amplifying Her Voice “In Moms We Trust” Summit! Next we’d like to introduce you to De’Nicea Hilton Harper; a well-being consultant, author, podcaster, and self-proclaimed perfectionist. She encourages women to “claim (their) perfection,” guiding them through creating playful healing spaces, being present, self-acceptance, authenticity, seeking answers within, and more. She is the host of the “I Am Perfect!” podcast and the author of I Am Perfect! Your Z – A Playbook to Embrace, Embody and Express Your Perfect Authentic Self.

Hilton Harper spoke on our “Self-Care Hacks” panel; discussing the importance of self-awareness, clarity, communication, and messages we get from our bodies. In our discussion here she talks about empowering women through resources, how to care for yourself, the universal values of compassion and love, and more. What inspired you to join Amplifying Her Voice for Mother’s Day?

I was inspired to join Amplifying Her Voice for women around the world to realize her sustainable power and influence by being who she is authentically: her perfect authentic self.

What cause, company, group, or movement are you a part of that you would like to share with us?

EmpowHERment, a nonprofit local to my area, whose mission is to empower all women by fostering the skills and resources needed to obtain self-sufficiency in finances, mental and emotional wellness, and the cultivation of relationships. I just love them and the changes for women that happen due to what’s available!

What do you think are some of the most pressing issues facing moms, families, and caregivers today?

Navigating what’s best for them and their families. There’s a bunch of info out there and it can be overwhelming—and depending on the groups, environments, and cultures; decisions may be made based on trying to fit in. And this may not be what they’re desiring for themselves. This can lead to more stress and anxiety to uphold something that just doesn’t work for them.

Know that it’s OK to go for what you’re feeling that’s best and more in alignment, despite the CURRENT people around you. You don’t need their approval or validation.

I bet there are other groups and environments that’ll match what you’d like to see instead—and it’ll feel a heck of a lot better and freeing, too!

What is the best advice you’ve received?

Be who you are, and make the way for others to be who they are as well.

What is something you would like to share with the next generation?

You’re not broken, need to be enhanced or fixed.

You are whole. You are complete. You are perfect.

What do you think is the most important thing for women to keep in mind in terms of caring for themselves?

There is always time to take care of yourself. It’s the quality of care that matters most. And that can be simply a dance session in the car for three minutes while at a light, or even smiling and winking at yourself in the mirror while saying “I love you.”

What are your views on “work-life balance” for women? How should women handle the obligations of both professional and family life, and what messages does it send to the next generation?

I don’t believe work-life balance exists. Balance implies a stillness, a stagnation.

We are fluid beings living in a fluid environment. Seasons change, and that goes the same for professional and family life. There are rhythms where one may require your attention more so than the other. The more you become aware of your rhythms, the more clear you become as well as your requests for support.

It may seem daunting and overwhelming while in the middle of it, but trust that it is a season and the tools you need to support you are available.

What advice would you like to share with girls and women looking to achieve their dreams and lift up one another?

Be aware of your own thoughts and conversations. If you find yourself judging someone else (whether aloud or not), that’s the energy you’re adding to the greater whole.

Instead, ask yourself how you can “think” someone “up” or “speak” them “up”—acknowledging and accepting who they are. You don’t know their journey.

Although our journeys are different, what’s common and links everyone is the desire for compassion and love—something we all have readily available within us and can extend to another.

We appreciate all the wisdom shared by De’Nicea Hilton Harper and her continued encouragement for women to accept and love themselves and one another. If you didn’t catch her panel last week, keep an eye on our social media channels for videos of “Self-Care Hacks” and all the illuminating and uplifting conversations that took place during Amplifying Her Voice!
