You’ve Got to Fight for Your Rights (and for the Rights of Women Everywhere)

Fighting for rights—whether to life, to equal pay, to recognition in management and in spaces like blockchain and cryptocurrency, to be taken seriously as an athlete, or just to be taken seriously—seems to be a fundamental characteristic of being a woman in the world. But women are up to the task, whether fighting for themselves, others, or women everywhere.

Abortion, Equal Pay, Family Leave: Here Are All the Women’s Rights Policies Proposed by 2020 Candidates So Far, from CNBC Make It—“From the fight for equal pay and paid parental leave to the push for abortion rights and better maternal healthcare, many presidential hopefuls are aware that they’ll need to address these key issues in order to win over women, who, have historically voted at higher rates than men.
‘Already, Democratic candidates entering the presidential race have acknowledged the importance of women — women of color — black women — in their pathways to victory,’ former Congresswoman Donna Edwards writes in an op-ed for The Washington Post. Though many dismiss identity politics, she writes, ‘for many women/women of color/black women, identity is politics,’ and it will be critical for presidential candidates to recognize that.”

Running Revolutionary Kathrine Switzer’s Life Is Being Made Into a Movie, from Runner’s World—“This is a pivotal time for women claiming their rights around the world, and those of us who ran played a big part in leading this movement because running empowered us so much.  We became brave and fearless. We want to pass this on to every girl and woman we know. I want the film to show this.”

Blockchain Lawyer Celine Moille Says Being a Woman Is ‘No Obstacle’, from Coin Rivet—“Female engagement in Bitcoin recently hit a record high at 9.1 percent. This is good news for us women who made up just 3 percent of the Bitcoin pie last year. And it’s one of the many indicators that women in blockchain are on the rise. […] We must not believe that new technologies are reserved for men. I work with fantastic female lawyers who are often much more curious and imaginative than men! When you’re a young woman, with blond hair with a baby at home, and you want to be a lawyer in business law and new technologies, I have just one piece of advice: Be yourself, be professional, and everything will be fine.”

Canada Commits $300M to Launch New Global Equality Fund for Women’s Rights, from Global News—“Canada’s federal government is committing $330 million in funding as it reshapes the way it supports gender equality issues in Canada and abroad. Maryam Monsef, minister of international development and minister of women and gender equality, made the announcement in Vancouver on Sunday. The largest slice of the funds, $300 million, will go to the Equality Fund, which will work to develop a funding platform for women’s rights organizations in developing countries.”
