Amidst such turbulence and uncertainty, we are long overdue to carve out a slice of time dedicated to relaxation. While Netflix may seem relaxing enough, perhaps you deserve something better that transcends a passive escape. Perhaps it is time for yoga.
Yoga is restorative and regenerative; the benefits of yoga are endless. Scientists and researchers have catalogued a laundry list of physical and therapeutic benefits of yoga, that cover the spectrum from reducing anxiety to improving cardiovascular function. To some degree, we are all currently faced with stress, anxiety, suffering, and change. 2020 has been a bit of a mess, hasn’t it? Trust me—yoga can help.
In this hour-long yoga class, available online so you can follow along, I’ll lead you through a series of yoga poses, also called asanas, that are meant to provide you with the space to come back home to yourself. It’s a gentle class that is beginner friendly. If you have never tried yoga before, this class is a great place to start. Even if you are a seasoned yoga practitioner, may this class also suit your needs for restoration and relaxation.
Does an hour seem like an intimidating amount of time to allocate to yoga? Then you probably need this class now more than ever. This moment. Right now. Put down your to-do list, silence your notifications, and take an hour for self-care. Skip the Candy Crush marathon and the mindless scrolling of social media, and instead do something that benefits you on a deeper level. Go ahead, you deserve it.
The National Institutes of Health classifies yoga as a “form of complementary and alternative medicine.” While a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, an hour of yoga is it’s own kind of medicine.
