Supporting and investing in women is smart economics, good for societies, and just good business. This week we wanted to share a handful of stories all about women investing and investing in women—how to make gains; some exciting initiatives; and the opportunities, security, partnerships, entrepreneurial successes, and progress that come with women’s economic empowerment.
Samsung’s Investment in Kids Fuels Women in STEM, from Forbes—“Creating an efficient pathway for employees to be volunteers, mentors and thought leaders will fuel culture change. Women working in STEM and students interested in pursuing it are ready for a new culture where corporate and community are integrated seamlessly as a business priority not just as a ‘nice thing to do’.”
The Equality Equation: Three Reasons Why the Gender Investing Gap Is Closing, from CFA Institute—“As more and more women become institutional money managers across all asset classes, we expect female retail investors will be more willing to invest with women at the helm — especially since female fund managers may generate higher returns.”
This Investment Fund Actually Allows Female Entrepreneurs to Be Themselves, from Forbes—“Given that a Treasury report earlier this year found that female entrepreneurs receive 157 times less funding than male entrepreneurs, this venture couldn’t have come at a better time. Rather than find a way to help women fit into the current investment system, Vicki Saunders is intent on creating a new one – one that actually benefits the women it’s serving and seeks to draw upon the strengths that women working together can muster.”
Imani Aims to Build Easily Accessible Blockchain-Based Option for Mobile Banking in Africa, from GeekWire—“(Heidi Metz, CEO and founder of mobile banking startup Imani) is leveraging a partnership with Solageo, a company started by a friend from graduate school that is selling solar products to underserved communities, in order to start reaching customers. Imani will serve as a means for processing payments for the clean energy items. The duo recently won the regional rounds of the Empower a Billion Lives (EBL) competition, organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. For the EBL’s global contest, they’re launching a pilot project in Uganda in August to deliver clean water and energy to women and families.”
