Earth Hour 2022: It’s more than turning off the lights

It’s already going around the world: Earth Hour, observed today from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. local time, began in 2007 as a symbolic event to draw global attention to climate change and the importance of preserving the planet we all share. Since then, the movement has grown to include more than 190 countries and includes worldwide conversations about protecting the natural world and ways we can all come together to reduce climate change and its impacts (which disproportionately affect women).

Switch off your lights to show your support, but also: Take the moment to reflect, look up at the stars, think about the world we share, and remember how we’re all connected. Research ways to live more responsibly and sustainably, and stay informed about climate change and how it affects people around the world. Protecting the planet (especially through women-led climate justice measures) helps reduce suffering and promote rights for us all.
