Being self-employed is an endless process of figuring out what works for your business — and what doesn’t. As an entrepreneur, you’ve likely heard countless tips for success. After trying strategy after strategy, you may have discovered that what helps you succeed depends on your unique needs, preferences, and business concept.
However, there are several exceptions. Some habits have been proven time and time again to be beneficial to all entrepreneurs, at all stages of business. Explore the top four things we recommend doing on a regular basis to help your organization thrive.
Meet with other local business owners
Networking is beneficial for every entrepreneur — period. There is no downside to meeting with other business owners in your area. Whether you decide to join the local chamber of commerce or a national networking organization, this habit is one you do not want to skip. Even introverts can develop rewarding professional relationships with individuals in every industry. By acting as a physical presence for your business, you can more easily establish trust, find referrals, and build your brand.
Not sure how to start networking in your town or city? Browse the Events tab on Facebook to discover upcoming networking events happening nearby. You can also Google the name of your town or city with the phrase “networking events” to find organizations that meet locally.
Use strategies that help you work smarter, not harder
One of the best skills to master as a business owner is finding ways to work smarter, not harder. You already put in an immense number of hours of work per week — why work more than you need to?
There are a variety of ways to free up extra time in your schedule. For example, there are apps that streamline important processes, such as paying and sending invoices automatically. Also, if you are just starting your business, don’t spend days researching various topics such as business structures. Entrepreneurs looking to form an LLC can expedite the process by using online services from providers such as ZenBusiness. Quick and affordable formation services offer paperwork and filing services and professional customer support.
Outsource tasks that are outside of your core duties
The rise of freelancing has made it easier and more affordable than ever before to outsource. No matter the task you need completed, there are experienced professionals available around the clock.
Despite the ease and budget-friendliness of outsourcing, some business owners are reluctant to give up control. Driven, Type A personalities are often used to doing everything, so relinquishing duties can be challenging. Since no one can do everything themselves without experiencing burnout, remind yourself that this practice is a healthy necessity for every entrepreneur.
Keep your personal and professional social media pages up-to-date
A shocking number of business owners do not keep their personal and professional social media pages up-to-date. LinkedIn profiles, business pages, and the like can go neglected for years. Although it may seem insignificant, having all of your work details current is essential. You might be surprised at who is looking to see what you do for a living — especially on LinkedIn.
Additionally, if you’ve started a business page for your company, regular updates are important for multiple reasons. The most significant is that if people see no posts on an Instagram or Facebook page, they will likely assume that you’ve gone out of business.
You can easily practice these habits in conjunction with the things you normally do to help your business thrive — and incorporating just one or two routines is a great way to help grow your organization.
