Innovation to Help End Sexual Harassment Spotlight: ElsaMarie D’Silva of Safecity


d-silvaElsa Marie D’Silva is currently the Managing Director and co-founder of Red Dot Foundation (Safecity) which is a platform that documents sexual harassment and abuse in public spaces. She is responsible for the day to day running of the organization, its campaigns with various partner organizations, management of volunteer teams across the country and forging new partnerships.

She is a 2015 Aspen New Voices Fellow. Prior to Safecity, she was in the aviation industry for 20 years where she worked with Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines. Her last portfolio was Vice President Network Planning & Charters where she oversaw the planning and implementation of 500 daily flights.

She has written articles that have appeared in CNN, Huffington Post and the WIP.

We talk to Elsa about how the current situation of gender-based crime inspired her and her other co-founders to come up with this website. Elsa explains why it is so important for the stories of the victims of such crimes to be shared, as well as how the power of these stories can be used to prevent more crimes like it to arise in the future. Elsa also details how young women and girls will be educated about gender-based crime and how they will work towards the end of these situations occurring again.
